Many of our positive influences on endangered species come from our expertise in the reproduction and fertilization processes. We therefore have the ability to predict the potential breeding outcome with reasonable confidence and we do this by utilizing every sperm cell to the best of its ability.
It would be very difficult to trap every male fish in a river system to enter into a breeding program. We can take each male fish and assess their reproduction capability and through our uses of sperm diluters we can make the sperm work at least 3x times as hard and so increase the fertilization potential. We can do this with fresh sperm as well as cryopreserved genes that we are keeping for a later fertilization in this season, the next or in several years’ times.
No-one can predict the future but we can predict an outcome fish by fish and what their cryopreserved sperm is likely to do in the future.
